Welcome to Year R!
Our day to visit the library will be a Thursday so please return your library books on Wednesday.
Reading books will be changed on Tuesdays and Fridays but please try to ensure that book bags are in school every day as you never know when there might be something to carry home!
PE will be on a Thursday so please come dressed in PE kit.

Homework
In year R we encourage children to read at home daily. You can also access the ‘Reading Eggs’ App to practise reading at home in fun and educational based online app.
Tricky Words -These will be sent home through the year as we learn them. You can not use your sounds to blend them so they have be learnt by sight.
Phonics - As we progress with phonics we will send home a handwriting sheet to support their letter formation. Numbers As we progress in counting, we will send home number formation sheets to support number formation.
Talk Boost - Each half term we will be learning about new topics and upcoming events. In order for all children to be able to share in discussion and learning they will need to understand and where possible, use the vocabulary needed. Before each topic we will upload a ‘Talk Boost’ sheet with vocabulary to use together before the topics begin. The words have been differentiated to meet the needs of your child.
Half Term Homework Selectors - Each half term we will send home (put online) a homework selector. Children will then be able to choose from a selection of activities. These are always fun and are often good ideas to do with the whole family.
Tapestry - Where homework is completed on the computer or photo’s taken, it could be shared with the class teachers via your child’s Tapestry account.

Phonics Support
Here at Leesland, we use the scheme 'Read Write Inc'. We have used this to support the delivery of our phonics teaching very successfully. The children love the pictures which help them to remember the sounds and also the formation of each letter. Phonics can be a new world for parents today so to help make it as easy as possible for our families, please look at the guides below.
